F.A.Q.

Patricia February 3rd, 2007

I’ve already had a few questions and I thought we needed a FAQ. Thus far, though I have answers to the various questions:

  1. Where can I find all those pesky details?
    • Click here.  This will give you the pricing details, dates, and more information.  Still can’t find what you need, call 888-286-9827 to chat.
  2. Is there a single rate?
    • Yes there is.  It is double the cruise fare only, not double the taxes and workshop fees.  You can find the details at the above link, but if you have questions, please let me know.
  3. Will you find me a roommate?
    • Yes and No. Yes, I will be thrilled to maintain a list of folks seeking roommates with a few of the basics (gender and age range — no exact ages, promise, and cabin preference). However, I’d prefer that you e-mail or reach out to these people and see who might work the best for you. If you want a room to yourself, that is possible and there is a single supplement for it — but there will be a roommate list to work through. If you need any special help with this, please call or e-mail me.
  4. What documents will I need to go on this trip?
    • Assuming you are a US citizen, you will need a passport. As of 1/1/2008, the State Department is requiring US citizens to carry passports for all travel between Canada, the Caribbean, and Mexico. You can get more information on what you need and how to get a passport here.
  5. Should I bring the family?
    • Oh yes, if you wish. If you need a triple or quad cabin (or even require two cabins that a join), please call me for pricing. These type of cabins go the quickest, so it is important to talk to me now so I can hold you the right space. There is a DISCOUNT for the 3rd and 4th people in a cabin; just in case you want to.
  6. Is there a discount if my spouse/roommate/friend isn’t a knitter?
    • Sort of.  Celebrity is REALLY strict about discounting, so what I’ve offered is a ship board credit for the non-knitter OR the choice of the second goody bag for the knitter.  We had people who wanted the two bags last year, so I thought I’d offer the choice.
  7. What about airfare? Do I have to do that on my own?
    • No. If you call me 888-286-9827 or e-mail me where you are flying in from I will help you out. First, we will check with the cruise line. Often they have bought bulk air and will offer a great deal including getting you from airport to pier. Then I will help you check the major airlines to see what is the best price. Then it is your choice. However, I do strongly suggest that you get the optional transfers from the airport to piers, so that you won’t have to do all of that on your own.
  8. Is there a limit to how many can join us?
    • No, there really isn’t a limit; but there are limited cabins available by price — so to get the best price, book early. It is only $250 per person to hold your cabin and that is refundable. However, if you wait, the price may go up or there may not be cabins available in what you would prefer. Let me repeat, there is plenty of space on the ship, but if you want the best price per cabin and get the best choice in cabin types, booking earlier is better than waiting.
  9. Why are we in Seattle for 2 days?
    • This is actually a function of the time we leave Seattle. We depart at 1am Sunday Morning. This means, you will board the ship in Seattle (ideally near noonish) and be sound asleep (or partying with the Night Sheep) when we actually depart. Still to be answered is the time of the muster drill (life jacket safety) and if we can put our stuff down and disembark to hang out in downtown Seattle. These are questions I’ll post the answers to once I know.
  10. Are Knitting Classes included?
    • Actually YES. ALL classes are included in the group price. Also included is an amazing goody bag.
  11. Will there be anything to do for non-knitters? Is there a special price?
    • We don’t have the whole ship, so there will be a bevy of activities for non-knitters on the ship (as well as off). I will say this, we also have a larger group of non-knitters joining the group (spouses and such) so I’m thinking of pushing Michael into hosting a “support group” one afternoon or something. But needless to say, there will be things to do — for them, sadly, it will not be all fiber all the time. With regards to a special price, Celebrity is very strict about pricing. I must charge everyone the same rate, without exceptions. However, call me if this is your question, because I do have a special offer for non-knittersl rules state I can’t post it.
  12. Excursions?
    • There will be some. I’m working out the details and I will post them when I get it all sorted. They are not currently included in the pricing, these will be optional and extra. Howevr, any excursion I book will be only for us and geared to what we want to do.
  13. Formal Night(s)?
    • There will be TWO formal nights on this cruise. This does not mean ballgowns and tuxes. Since I will be on a Celebrity ship soon, I will take photos to give you an idea of how formal they get. This past year, most of us seemed to dress for dinner, hurry back to the cabins change then meet up for knitting.
  14. Meals?
    • All meals, except the speciality dining room, are included in the cruise fare. Your drinks (beyond water, iced tea, and coffee) are not. Even 24 room service is included. We will be seated together — in the same section of the dining room. Unless you request to be away from the group, we will be in the main seating for dinner.
  15. Extra “unexpected” expenses?
    • As far as the ship is concerned, the added expenses are tips, drinks (not water, iced tea, or coffee — unless in a bar), spa appointments, purchases at the shops, casino gambling. As far as the Sea Socks group goes, unless you add shore excursions and such, nope — well, I am not responsible for your yarny purchases.
  16. Non-wool yarns?
    • This was a new question for me, and I talked to Erin about offering an option. Details will be forth coming on how we can (but we will) handle this. Just a warning, there may be a slight increase for the non-wool goody bag — but I promise it won’t be much.
  17. Special requests?
    • These would include any help at the pier, wheelchairs on board, dietary needs, and such. 99% of these can be handled without issue, but I need to know about them at the time of booking so we can tell Celebrity in advance.
  18. Payments, and due dates?
    • Let’s be very clear. The deposit is $500 per cabin ($250 per person, but if the cabin is booked as a single, it is $500) due at the time of booking. The final payment is due 2/15/2008. If you wish to make payments along the way, please feel free, but the only requirement is to be paid by 2/15/2008.
  19.  Class Schedule and materials lists?
    • The class schedule will be announced in the Spring with the materials list.  We need to finalize the schedule as well as locations and times with Celebrity.  Please note, we will only have classes during sea days and at times to try to avoid some of the best scenic viewing.  I will do my best to make sure this is an ideal combination of a cruise to Alaska AND a Knitting adventure.

Please ask more questions!!!

    Hey Patricia!

A friend has put the Sea Socks ‘08 bug in my ear,but I have to confess to being totally “cruise ignorant”. I’ve looked at the main info pages, but is there somewhere that spells everything out specific to this cruise? I’m talking how meals, etc work. Info on what is “included and what will be an extra expense? Excusrions? Are the knitting classes included or are they seperate? Why are there 2 days in Seattle? Do we need to get a hotel for that? Formal?!?!?!

Help, my head is spinning! (wish my fingers were…)

    Hey, Patricia –

I would LOVE to be attending Sea Socks ‘08, but unfortunately, it seems to be in conflict with my wedding. (Darn it — Matrimony, knitting. Matrimony, knitting… Well, he puts up with my endless stash feeding and lets me knit in bed, so I think the fiance wins out.) Is there a mailing list or news group that I can get on so I can start planning ahead for the ‘09 cruise? (There IS going to be one, right?)

    Thank you!

    Sam

    Hi:

I’d really love to go on Sea Socks 09, but I would be looking for a roommate. I can’t afford to go at the single rate. Where is the list for roommates, and how can I get on it? Is it okay to go alone? Is the group pretty friendly?
