According to the Amtrak website, there's also a train (or maybe a bus) that leaves Vancouver at noon, arriving around 4:30 PM in Seattle. You'd still have to stay in Seattle overnight and get a train out the next day.

I'm giving some serious thought to trains, possibly taking the Empire Builder from Seattle to Chicago, then another train from there back home.

Karen:
Before looking at the pricing I think I should talk about the schedule — cause it isn’t perfect. The train from Vancouver to Seattle (the Cascades) leaves Vancouver at 6pm and arrives in Seattle at 10pm that evening. Then to get the train from Seattle to LA, it would leave at 9:45am the following morning and would arrive in LA at 9pm the following day. So if you leave Vancouver on the 4th, you would spend the night in Seattle and then arrive into LA on the 6th. Is this what you are thinking?
If you need more information please e-mail me at seasocks@REMOVETHISgmail.com

I would love any detailed info on the Amtrak back to L.A if you have such. Preferably a berth.

I would also be willing to share.
